New trends in the correction of intestinal dysbiosis
To begin with, I would like to recall that the intestinal microbiocenosis includes obligate, facultative and transient microflora. The most important for us is the first group of bacteria, which, despite the not very large species composition, has the largest number, and therefore forms the basis of the biocenosis. It is relatively stable and includes mainly lactic acid bacteria (bifidobacteria and lactobacilli), as well as bacteroids, Escherichia coli, enterococci. The role of these microorganisms can hardly be overestimated, since they take part in the regulation of the immune system and the synthesis of vitamins K and group B, contribute to the digestion of food, improve the motility of the digestive tract and the absorption of biologically active substances, and most importantly, they have antagonistic activity against opportunistic and pathogenic microflora. This allows you to protect the intestinal walls from colonization by pathogenic microorganisms, which means that it provides all the conditions for the normal functioning of the digestive tract. And the health of not only the intestines, but the whole organism as a whole depends on how full-fledged the work of these bacteria will be (Hawrelak J, 2004).
If, for various reasons (for example, when using antibacterial drugs, eating disorders, the presence of gastroenterological diseases), the number of representatives of the obligate microflora decreases significantly, and opportunistic and pathogenic microorganisms, respectively, increases, they speak of dysbiosis. The result of such an imbalance in the microbiocenosis is a violation of the processes of digestion, metabolism, and the synthesis of vitamins. And, as a result, abdominal pain, flatulence, diarrhea, etc. appear.
Therefore, it is important to restore the disturbed balance in the intestinal microflora. For this purpose, probiotics containing cultures of live lactic acid bacteria are widely used. Obviously, in choosing such a tactic for correcting dysbiosis, the opinion plays a decisive role: “If there are few beneficial bacteria of our own, their deficiency can be replenished with cultures introduced from outside.”
Recently, however, some experts have questioned the feasibility of this approach. They indicate that the degree of activity of the introduced cultures remains unknown, and after the termination of such therapy, artificially introduced strains quickly disappear from the intestine (Mayansky A.N., 2000).
At the same time, the inability of the species composition of the used probiotics to fully reproduce the entire diversity of their own obligate microflora is also noted (Kiselev S.A., 2004).
And since each of us has an individual qualitative and quantitative composition, it may be appropriate to stimulate the growth of representatives of our own obligate microflora. And in this case, the use of prebiotics, which promote selective stimulation of the growth and metabolic activity of bacteria, is promising (Khavkin A.I., 2003).
First of all, prebiotics include lactulose, which serves as a source of nutrition for bifidobacteria and lactobacilli, which are the basis of the obligate intestinal microflora. When it enters the digestive tract, it reaches the large intestine unchanged, which allows it to fully manifest its beneficial effect.
A special place among prebiotics containing lactulose is occupied by a dietary supplement. LACTUSAN. Due to the beneficial properties of this syrup, there is an increase in the number of representatives of the bifidoflora and inhibition of the growth of opportunistic microorganisms, and this, in turn, helps to reduce the severity of dysbiosis and restore normal microbiocenosis in the intestine. Besides, LACTUSAN non-toxic, which allows you to use it in a full course to achieve the desired restoration of intestinal microflora.
How wide is the scope LACTUSANA? This question was answered by experts who conducted several studies in Russia.
The initial goal was to confirm the bifidogenic effect of lactulose under conditions in vitro and animal research. But in the course of the study, not only it was achieved - a beneficial effect of lactulose concentrate on the restoration of intestinal microflora in mice was also noted, even against the background of the introduction of antibiotics such as ampicillin or tetracycline (Shcherbakova E.G., 1998).
Specialists of the Yaroslavl State Medical Academy found that lactulose concentrate in vitro contributes to an increase in the intensity of growth of bifidobacteria and lactobacilli. At the same time, the activity of lysozyme, a substance that plays an important role in the work of local immunity, also increased (Malafeeva E.V., 1999).
Later, other positive properties of lactulose concentrate were noted. In particular, against the background of adding LACTUSANA to the treatment regimen for patients with thyrotoxic goiter, type I and II diabetes mellitus, diseases of the digestive system, the performance of the immune system normalized - the level of T- and B-lymphocytes increased, the synthesis of immunoglobulins, the phagocytic activity of neutrophils (Sukhanov G.A., 2001) .
LACTUSAN proved to be relevant in pediatric practice. This syrup as part of the complex treatment of children with chronic gastritis was well tolerated and made it possible to cope with the symptoms of dysbiosis (Vetrova L.V., 2001).
Useful LACTUSAN and with viral hepatitis, and in all age groups (both adults and children). It helps to reduce the symptoms of constipation, allergic dermatosis and improve overall well-being even with chronic hepatic encephalopathy (Baysheva Z.N., 2000, Bobrikov V.S., 2000).
At the same time, the possibility of using LACTUSANA not only in a hospital or outpatient setting, but also during the sanatorium and resort rehabilitation of patients with chronic diseases of the digestive tract, which are accompanied by the development of dysbiosis (Efimenko N.V., 2000).
Until the end, the possibilities of lactulose syrups have not yet been studied. However, the fact that the scope of their use can be expanded is indicated by the results of another study, which showed that the enrichment of kefir with lactulose contributed to the restoration of intestinal microflora in children much better compared to ordinary kefir (Kuzmenko L.T., 2001).
However, already now LACTUSAN can be recommended:
- as part of dietary nutrition to normalize the intestinal microflora (including after the use of antibiotics);
- with dysbiosis;
- with constipation;
- with liver diseases of various etiologies;
- with metabolic disorders accompanied by allergic dermatosis;
- to improve the functioning of the immune system.
