Lactusan in gastroenerology
The study was conducted in the gastroenterological department of the 2nd Central Clinical Hospital in Perm.
The study included 26 patients aged 46 to 54 years, who were divided into 2 groups:
- a. Patients with chronic cryptogenic hepatitis and cirrhosis of the liver with chronic hepatic encephalopathy - 11 people (7 men and 4 women).
- b. Patients with persistent constipation, in whom the study of feces for dysbacteriosis revealed a decrease in lactobacilli (in 5 patients) or their complete absence (in 10 patients) and the presence of putrefactive microbes in 6 out of 15 patients.
Patients with hepatic encephalopathy were given Lactusan syrup, 3 tablespoons (45 ml) 2 times a day for 15 days. The dynamics of clinical signs of encephalopathy and transaminases was assessed. It was noted that after the course of therapy, the phenomena of encephalopathy decreased in all patients, no significant dynamics of transaminases was detected, although in 6 patients a slight decrease was noted.
In the 2nd group of patients with intestinal dysbacteriosis, Lactusan was prescribed 1 tablespoon (15 ml) 1-2 times a day. Already on the 5th-7th day, normalization of the stool was noted in all 15 patients. With continued treatment, 6 people developed a tendency to diarrhea, which was stopped by reducing the dose of the drug by half.
Re-examination of feces for dysbacteriosis was carried out 2 weeks after discontinuation of the drug. In 12 people, the number of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria reached normal levels (1010). No putrefactive microflora was found in any of the patients.
During the study period, no phenomena of poor tolerance of the drug were noted - nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain.
Conclusion:
The use of Lactusan for 2 weeks by patients with chronic hepatic encephalopathy can reduce the clinical manifestations of encephalopathy. There is also a positive dynamics of symptoms in patients suffering from dysbacteriosis with the normalization of the microbial spectrum of the colon.
It is possible to recommend taking "Lactusan" in gastroenterological practice for patients with chronic liver diseases with symptoms of hepatic encephalopathy and for patients with chronic persistent constipation caused by dysbacteriosis with a decrease in the number of lactobacilli. The drug is well tolerated by patients, so it can be used both in a hospital and on an outpatient basis.
